Personality & Traits

General Overview M’rayr Eisovo is the sort of person who walks softly yet carries a big stick. He is generally aloof or brusque, seeming to be emotionally and physically detached from those around him, but can still be social and friendly. M’rayr has previously been diagnosed with survivor’s guilt after his experiences during the Dominion War, and although he began to show improvement upon his marriage to Jennifer, his psychological indicators have since reasserted themselves since her death. Rather than succumb to his guilt, M’rayr has tried to find meaning in it.
Strengths + Hearing & Vision – Caitian hearing is on par with animals with an auditory frequency range greater than most humans, and their cat-like eyes provide excellent night vision. On board a Starship, M’rayr has used his superior hearing to diagnose technical and mechanical problems on board the ship.

+ Engineering and Command experience – M’rayr possesses an engineering background with more than two decades of experience under his belt, plus another ten years of command experience. He still draws on these experiences, including his time as the Katana’s commanding officer, even now that he has been appointed as the Galileo’s Chief Diplomatic Officer.

+ Combat experience – His physical stature aside, M’rayr’s combat experiences throughout the course of the Dominion war has made him a formidable warrior. While Caitians are prohibited from unsheathing their claws during combat in accordance with Caitian law, even in his old age M’rayr can handle his own in a hand-to-hand encounter.
Weaknesses - Loss of eye – M’rayr lost his left eye in a battle during the Dominion war when a Breen soldier gouged it out with a combat blade. Narrowly surviving the counter, M’rayr has nonetheless been encumbered by his loss of visual range and depth of perception.

- Survivor’s Guilt & post-traumatic stress disorder – During the Dominion war, the R’toroa, the Cushing, and the Axanar each experienced heavy battle damage with significant loss of life. M’rayr somehow managed to survive in each case, while many of his friends and comrades had not. Diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and survivor’s guilt near the conclusion of the war, M’rayr has trouble sleeping, experiences recurrent nightmares of these traumatic events, is generally withdrawn socially. While civil, he has difficulty letting people in close, preferring to keep friendships and relationships at arm’s length.
Ambitions Since retiring from command, M’rayr’s chief ambition is to find a sense of peace in his life.
Hobbies & Interests Reading poetry and philosophical volumes, meditation, exercise, bartending techniques and recipes.
Orientation Heterosexual
Language(s) Spoken Federation Standard, Caitian, some Klingon

Personal History M’rayr Eisovo was born in the fertile greenlands in C’tokh Provence on Cait. The Eisovo tribe, a minor participant in Caitian political and diplomatic affairs throughout the United Federation of Planets, requires that that each Caitian male serve a minimum five years in the Caitian Sky Navy. After which, they are regularly filtered into various civil capacities with the intent of ensuring their tribe’s influence. Unlike most of the political families on Cait, the Eisovo clan viewed Caitian affiliation with the United Federation of Planets as a detriment to the species, and had rallied for over one hundred years for permanent disassociation. It is for this reason that they are generally seen as xenophobic isolationists, and their goal to seed the Caitian political counsel over time with members of their tribe in order to implement their goals was never taken seriously.

When M’rayr came of age in 2368, he joined the Caitian Sky Navy and served on board the CSN R’toroa as a junior engineer. For M’rayr, he was behaving in accordance with the objectives of his clan. He was an opportunist who in four, maybe five years might eventually preside over a position of influence and power in Caitian Society. After the Dominion War broke out in 2373, his views began to change. The Sky Navy had been relegated to guarding the inner colonies and were not expected to see actual combat against the Jem’hadar. But those assumptions came to an abrupt end with the seizure of Betazed – a close galactic neighbor to Cait. The CSN R’toroa and its escorts were one of the first military vessels to enter Betazoid space in a futile gesture to curtail Dominion forces. They failed tremendously; M’rayr was one of the few survivors aboard the R’toroa when the Federation counterattack was abandoned. A considerable number of Eisovo males serving in the CDF had been killed in the defense of Betazed. Its partisan schemes were now at risk, and the tribe began to make arrangements for all surviving males to return to the presumed safety of the homeworld. M’rayr received new orders to man a small observation post near Cait V.

He refused.

M’rayr now understood the importance of a strong alliance like the United Federation of Planets, both in peacetime and during war, and no longer shared his tribe’s desire to secede. Unfortunately, the result of his decision was banishment.
Starfleet History In order to repopulate its severely depleted ranks, several Caitian officers were offered provisional commissions in Starfleet. M’rayr accepted such a commission, and was assigned to the USS Cushing. In no small part due to his experience, he was made its Assistant Chief Engineer; the Cushing had lost almost a quarter of its crew during the battle of Kalandra, and the Caitian’s knowledge and familiarity with Starfleet systems were extremely valuable. The USS Cushing participated in Starfleet’s victory at Chin’toka, and later fought in various campaigns to hold the system. But after the Breen committed itself to the Dominion, Federation forces were no longer able to hold the system. Like dozens of other vessels, the USS Cushing was destroyed by the Breen energy dampening weapon. Most of its escape pods were allowed to escape destruction in order to spread fear and panic through the Federation.

With the Cushing destroyed, M’rayr was reassigned to the USS Axanar. Once the Federation and Romulan fleets were shielded against the Breen energy dampening weapon, the Axanar rejoined the war effort in time to partake in the Battle of Cardassia. It was severely damaged in the initial push, however, suffering heavy losses before being forced to limp back to Deep Space 9. After hostilities between the United Federation of Planets and the Dominion formally concluded with the signing of the Treaty of Bajor, M’rayr resigned his commission. He joined a civilian freighter crew and spent the next two years serving aboard the SS Last Bastion, a Merchantman-type freighter, running cargo near the Federation/Klingon border.

In 2378, M’rayr was contacted by an old colleague and former officer of the Axanar who persuaded him to rejoin the fleet as the newest Chief Engineer on board the USS San Jacinto. Later on, M’rayr was encouraged to pursue a track in command himself, where he was selected to become the San Jacinto’s second officer. In 2383, Matthew was promoted to Captain with M’rayr serving as his Executive Officer. A short period later, recent events on another Federation Starship, the USS Katana, had garnered the attention of the admiralty board; Commander Kristopher Kerouac, the Katana’s commanding officer, had undergone an evaluation of his command ability after several disturbing incidents between one of his senior officers and the clandestine organization known as Section 31. Despite the fact that Kristopher Kerouac’s career had technically survived this board of review, there were enough members in the admiralty who believed that the Katana was a deeply troubled starship. Some felt this meant that Kerouac needed to go, while others felt that he was a good officer working under difficult and extraordinary circumstances.

As a compromise, the board agreed to assign Kerouac someone who they believed to be a first-rate executive officer. Given M’rayr’s exemplary service record and experience over his fourteen year tenure with Starfleet, he was their ideal first choice. M’rayr was advanced in rank to full Commander before being assigned to the Katana as its newest XO, replacing Lieutenant Commander Cameron Tegan in what was a less-than-optimal exchange. But there were a few strings attached to this settlement. Two members of the admiralty had a personal vendetta against Kerouac, and wanted him gone. And as it happened to be, M’rayr had just become their means to an end.

Unfortunately, and much to an Admiral Jericho's chagrin, M'rayr refused to participate in their scheme. While rumors of his having some hidden agenda was initially reported on board the Katana, M'rayr eventually cleared the air and has since forth proved himself to be a reliable and loyal officer. Later, after Kristopher Kerouac was relieved of his command in the year 2386, M'rayr was placed in command of the Katana. He served as the Katana’s commanding officer for four years before retiring from Starfleet after an incident which led to the death of his mate – Jennifer Matthews.

M’rayr attempted to return home to Cait upon retiring, but was repelled by his tribe who still regarded his actions during the Dominion war as treachery. For the next year and a half, M’rayr became something of a drifter, seeking passage on whatever ship he could and visiting whatever planet or colony happened to find itself in his path. Whenever on-world, M’rayr took time to study and delve into various theological and religious sources, hoping to find meaning within his traumatic experiences. He didn’t. Nor could M’rayr find stability for himself, so he kept moving from world to world. As M’rayr was hitching transportation on board the Galileo towards his next destination when Vice Admiral Lirha Saalm offered him an opportunity; having met the Caitian almost a decade prior, Lirha saw how much he’d changed and offered him a place as her new Chief Diplomatic Officer.

M’rayr had been staunchly against the notion of returning to Starfleet as he had come to feel that his auspicious career had also been the key source for much of his grief and misery – including the untimely demise of his wife. Assuring the Caitian that he would be serving in an ambassadorial capacity, along with making other valid arguments on why he should return to Starfleet in at least some capacity, however, Lirha was eventually able to convince M’rayr to accept her offer.
