Personality & Traits
General Overview | Jerico considers himself to be fairly easy-going, though he tends to keep only a few very close friends. That's not to say that he is reclusive, but he's cautious about who he lets in closely. He's a creative type, always preferring to find whatever tactile stimulation he can find in art and life, be it the feel of clay on his hands or the slight *scritch* of an ink pen's nib on replicated paper. Jerico tries to be as open and honest as he can with people, and expects the same from them. He's half-Risian, so Jerico keeps a ja'risia disc but only wears it during meditation.
Strengths | Confidence - he doesn't lack for it, but is it covering something up? Accepting - Jerico is an open soul, ready for anything. Creative - in both his job and his hobbies. |
|
Weaknesses | Pressure - the Stark name has served the Federation for centuries, and that's a lot to live up to. Mistrust - of Tholians, stemming from the disappearance and presumed death of his father and uncle. It's not becoming of a Starfleet officer, and he is working through it with counseling. Long memory - not always a weakness, but Jerico tends to dwell on past wrongs and hurts, often more than he should. |
|
Ambitions | One, to live up to his family name and do them proud. That's the main, overarching principle of his life, and why he's out here in the first place. Two...he doesn't often talk about it, nor does he ever think it will happen, but a part of his heart can't give up the idea that somewhere out there...the missing members of his family might still be alive. Stranger things have happened, after all.
Hobbies & Interests | Jerico plays the Risian electric lute with no small level of talent. He also enjoys swimming and sculpting. He has an odd interest in Romulan calligraphy, but can't really find anyone who knows that much about it.
Vernacular | He's somewhat reserved, at least until Jerico feels comfortable around someone. In his professional life, he speaks with a clear, warm tone.
Orientation | Bisexual | |
Language(s) Spoken | Federation Standard, Risian, English, French. Passing familiarity with Vulcan and a few words and phrases in Romulan. |
Personal History | It seems there has always been a Stark to dare the stars. From the earliest days of UESPA to the fires of the Dominion War, it has been a name worn by officers and enlistees with pride. Before going to space, however, Jerico was born on Earth. Germantown, Maryland, to be exact, on the North American continent. Although he is Terran, half of his blood is Risian. Jerico's mother, Andrea, met a xenobiologist named Tarles during her own Starfleet service. The two were soon married (on a Risian beach, no less) and children followed not long after, during the births of which the couple took sabbaticals from the Fleet. Jerico was born second to his elder sister, Ainslie, in 2365. His parents considered full retirement by the time he came around, but the call of patriotism during the Dominion War was a strong one. With the children left safely on Earth, Andrea and Tarles served throughout the harrowing experience, thankfully returning home after a few cleanup operations following the Treaty of Bajor. With peace came Andrea Stark's full retirement with honors. Her husband was semi-retired, though assisting Starfleet on an ad hoc basis as a mission specialist. It was one of these missions in 2377 that, as a child of 12, a horrible tragedy struck the Stark family. Jerico's uncle, Corman (a decorated captain himself), asked for Tarles' xenobiological assistance on a semi-classified mission to the borders of Tholian space. The details of the incident were never satisfactorily clear, but the New Orleans-class USS Tuscarora was lost, along with a Tholian vessel. Starfleet officially classified them as Missing in Action, but the bottom line was that a father and beloved uncle were gone. In spite of this tragedy, Jerico continued to devote his studies toward one goal - acceptance into Starfleet Academy, which finally came to him. His mother travels a lecture circuit, giving presentations on warp theory and the Dominion War (though not in the same class). With his sister choosing the life of a freighter captain, the mantle of the Stark in space is now his to carry. |

Starfleet History | The goal was always Starfleet Academy. Jerico took advanced placement courses in mathematics and biosciences while in high school. Even if he wasn't sure what the major was going to be, the path was always clear. Of course, reality sometimes sets in. He had the grades with flying colors, so the initial entrance exams were like second nature. Until, of course, the infamous Psych Eval. Geared to make potential cadets face their own fears, his test involved Tholians - chattering, crystalline voices, cold and burning eyes, remorseless and utterly alien...and the beings that had robbed him of a father. He froze in the test, and failed. What now? Was he to be a washout? The rules stated that Jerico could try again in a year, so he made the most of that time. With his father on his mind, he traveled to Risa itself, his second homeworld. There Jerico joined in as an intern with a terraforming taskforce that was at work on a nearby dead moon. There was something soothing about the work, almost like working at clay with his hands. Here he knew peace, and it would have been easy to stay with it. Duty, however, is heavier than the bare-blasted mountains he helped bring back to life. Starfleet Academy awaited, and he finally passed the entrance evaluations the following year. Now he is graduated, successfully completing his cadet cruise and newly-commissioned an officer of the line. |
|
Medical History | Knee injury - Jerico took an ion mallet to the knee during a game of Parrises Squares. The Academy Infirmary fixed him up, but he can still feel a twinge in the right atmospheric conditions. Counseling - admitted to SFA counseling for a strong bout of stress-induced night terrors during his Freshman year. Risian Biology - he's half Risian, so sometimes medication for humans gives him a mild irritation, usually no more than a rash. The annoying thing about it is that it tends to come and go of its own volition. |
