Physical Description Upon looking at Elsie Halliwell, an instant air of authority is engendered. Her stature, not overly tall, is commanding enough to strike almost innate respect from not only her subordinates, but her peers within the Fleet as well. Her soft, alabaster face is smooth and, at times, almost expressionless. Her only betraying features are her eyes: Crystalline blue and piercing. And, like sugar-coated blackberries, can be equally as sweet as sour.

Childhood freckles still speckle the bridge of her nose and still relay a trace of a lost youth quickly taken. Her frame is athletic yet feminine and, untarnished by her unforgiving command uniform, still attractive as she enters the mid-years of her life. The long, fair hair that falls between the crease of her shoulder blades is tousled but neatly pinned back into a high ponytail, flowing over the back of her neck and plunging mid-way down. Of late, she has clipped her locks up in a bun resting atop her crown.

Her movement is fluid and calm with a graceful air that hints towards a childhood love of dance, something that she rarely indulges in nowadays.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Elsie can rarely be described as rash. Her thought processes are methodical, as are her reasons, and a gentle air of competency and authority lace every action she exacts. Goal-orientated and consistent, she would never tolerate failure. This, however, can lend itself to a personality-trait that sometimes works against her. When she does fail, as we all must, Elsie takes it out extremely hard on herself. So much so, in fact, that the lengths she goes to in recompense can be destructive and barbed with narrow-minded selfishness. The more forgiving of colleagues would describe this attribute as 'blind-sighted determination', but the few acquaintances who know better would not be so kind.

Rising through the ranks, Elsie Halliwell has made few friends along the path of her career. This is not to say that she is unfriendly or alone, but that her social circle is close and very selective. Emotional waste is a very unattractive quality to her eyes but she holds honesty, loyalty and trust in extremely high regard. Her friendship endeavours are, it is a shame to say, a clear mirror of her romantic ones. Burned once as a youthful ensign by a superior officer aboard her first posting, Elsie resigned herself to never indulge in the passions of relationships whilst in service again. And to this day, she has kept to her word. She wouldn't be human if her experiences didn't leach into her command ethos and so she takes a very dim and public view of officers cavorting amongst the ranks. However, staying out of her crew's personal lives offers her a detachment that she relishes and she would only fear to step in and intervene if she felt a disruption occur.

Stepping out of her uniform and unfastening the four golden pips from her collar, Elsie enjoys her own company greatly. Solitary and peaceful, she spends a great deal of her personal time in her quarters reading, working or listening to classical music alone. Her great passion is swimming. And, once a day, she secures one of the holodecks for an hour and takes to the great lakes of North America. Indoor pool training has its advantages, she recognises, however, nothing surpasses the exorbitant thrill of open-water swimming. The feel of nature about her, the emotional detachment that she savours from the world just feet away on the other side of the bulkhead cannot be matched in any other way. When the days begin to get long, and her work-load suppressive, she takes to the water and emerges refreshed and de-stressed.
Orientation Heterosexual

Personal History Elsie Halliwell was born in 2351 to Audrey and John Halliwell in the rural setting of Wales, United Kingdom. Blessed with seven years of unadulterated happiness, Elsie's idyllic life was spent frolicking amongst the lush, green valleys which surrounded their modest farm. Rearing just sheep and chickens and growing as much food as possible, the Halliwells sustained a life for themselves as far detached from technology as they could. Home-schooled in the beginning, Elsie excelled without the common distractions of friends and appreciated the more simpler approach to life that her parents had adopted.

However, in her seventh year, an unfortunate disease claimed the life of her father. Easily treatable by the standards of the day, John Halliwell died, mainly, due to the ignorance and rejection of modern medical technology. It was at this moment that Audrey packed Elsie off to her own sister's while she grieved, barely able to take care of herself, let alone a seven year old girl. Two years Elsie would live estranged from her mother in the care of her aunt and this period would later detail the strains of the relationship shared between the two women.

Once Audrey had recovered, she claimed her daughter from her sister's care and returned to live with old friends in North America. Now nine, and used to the conveniences of modern technology, Audrey found it difficult to convince a young Elsie otherwise. You can take the girl out of the 24th Century, but not the 24th Century out of the girl. As she grew, her mother also relaxed her own opinions on modern convenience, and in the light of her late husband's death, began to embrace it. Both now fully integrated into the society around them.

At the age of ten, Elsie was enrolled into a standard school and soon snapped back into the education system. The building blocks her mother had taught her at home now served her well in this institution and it was quickly noted that she would be destined for greatness.

The loss of her father, however, and the period estranged from her own mother when a little girl needed the comforts most, would toll heavily on her personal life as she grew through the awkward teenage years. Already displaying signs of emotional inhibitions, Elsie would never develop true friendships fully until the later years of her adolescences. Until she began her career at Starfleet Academy.

With no true direction in life, and with no solid friendships to tie her to anything, Elsie felt a driving need to belong and to exist. Understanding now, at the age of seventeen, the true nature and reasons behind her father's death, she rejected her childhood sentiments and focused on exploration, technology and advancement.

To her, the dreaded famed Entrance Exam was easy, and she was accepted upon her first application. She found the courses challenging yet fulfilling and forged ahead into success. During these years, she joined the Academy's swimming team, the Plasma Sharks and began to socially integrate herself into the experiences the Academy offered her.
Starfleet History Her first posting as Science Officer was aboard the USS Proteus where she excelled, particularly, in the Astrophysics department. Professionally, and more importantly, personally, Ensign Elsie Halliwell caught the attention of the Proteus' Chief Science Officer, and it wasn't long before her work was being highly praised and her duty-time was being primarily spent working side by side with Lieutenant Commander Tyrium Wolfenstow. Commander Wolfenstow was a brilliant scientist, an extraordinary officer, and an attractive gentleman. Being so starved of attention throughout her life, Ensign Halliwell fell hard for her superior and began a secretive and thrilling affair with him. It wasn't until six months after the beginning of this personal endeavour that his wife Lieutenant Denaara Jones transferred aboard and began serving as his Assistant Chief. Mortified and hurt, Elsie requested an immediate transfer from the Proteus citing career-related reasons and moved to the USS Carmen.

In 2373, Ensign Halliwell began her 'alternate' career path aboard the Carmen and threw herself into her work, pushing forward through the ranks and gaining a promotion to Lieutenant (Junior Grade) by 2375. Recognised now solely by her work, she felt confident, committed and yet bitter. Never would she look at another man wearing a Starfleet uniform again.

In 2377, the Carmen's Captain Stacey Bristow took a personal interest in her career development and promoted Halliwell to full Lieutenant and gave her the spot of Assistant Chief Science Officer on board the in light of several successful experiments devised and executed by her. Delighted by this progression, Elsie requested command training in addition and this was graciously granted. Being so professionally aggressive, Halliwell single-mindedly narrowed her vision and solely concentrated on her career.

In 2380, with the completed command training now under her belt, Halliwell applied for the Chief Science Officer position on board the USS Damascus and succeeded, acquiring another string to her bow in the guise of a promotion to Lieutenant Commander. Four hard years were served here, and the now Commander Halliwell re-organised the little Nova Damascus' Science department from the ground up and made it distinctively her own. It was this ingenuity and leadership quality that secured Halliwell her first command in the guise of the Miranda class USS Merryweather.

Captain Halliwell held command of the Miranda class USS Merryweather for eight years when, in 2386, she was offered the more technologically advanced USS Ranger. A dedicated science vessel, Command Headquarters saw Captain Halliwell the perfect Commanding Officer for such a vessel.
