Physical Description At first glance, it’s not immediately apparent that T’Kaen has any Vulcan heritage. Her eyebrows are only slightly upturned, and her ears just a bit more pointed than usual. Her Klingon ridges are similarly less prominent than in a full-blooded Klingon, and she lacks most of the non-cranial Klingon ridges. Though she is only average height and weight, she’s made of solid muscle. Because of her respective genetics, she is far stronger than she looks, and her constant training aids that fact.

Objectively, T’Kaen is a beautiful woman, with petite, fine facial features. There is a bit of an angular shape to her face from her Vulcan heritage. Hereditary longevity, large, almond-shaped eyes, and flawless carob skin give the impression that she’s younger than she actually is. Her black hair is typically intricately braided, and pulled back away from her face.

Personality & Traits

General Overview T’Kaen is a very driven, motivated woman. Though she doesn’t possess the full Vulcan focus, she’s adept at channeling her energy and her efforts towards the goals that are important to her. She is typically very controlled, very deliberate. These traits were taught to her by her Vulcan mother as ways to deal with the aggressive urges of her Klingon half. She typically chooses to keep her emotions under check, as that’s what she’s been taught to do since she was a little girl.

It takes a lot for her to get angry, but when she does, watch out. Her Vulcan control gives way to a temper that was extremely volatile in her younger years. As she has aged, she’s gotten better at managing her aggression through the use of holodeck simulations and sparring partners.

Personal History T'Kaen was born to a Federation diplomat mother and a Klingon diplomat father after an unfortunately timed pon'farr. The aftermath found T'Lori pregnant. As Vor'Aq wasnt interested in adding a Vulcan to his consorts, and T'Lori found Vor'Aq far less tolerable when not in the throes of passion, the pair parted ways. It was a difficult pregnancy, which forced T'Lori to decide: how much was she going to do to preserve a life that had been created unintentionally? She meditated on the subject, and determined the logical course of action was to allow the child to be born.

It took a good deal of effort, but the Diplomatic Corps medical staff managed to find a treatment plan that would keep T’Lori’s body from attacking the half-Klingon child within her. They did recommend that she return to Vulcan, and relax for the remaining duration of her pregnancy, a suggestion which she followed.

Childhood on Vulcan was difficult for T’Kaen. She didn’t look like the other children, and she didn’t act the way they did, even after many hours of lessons in Vulcan emotional control. She was teased in the haughty, condescending manner of the Vulcans, and if she responded in aggression, she only proved their beliefs correct: she was an out-of-control Klingon.

T’Lori summoned Vor’Aq, who met with his wayward child for the first time ever. He gave her guidance on what it meant to be Klingon, and on how to use her aggression as a strength and not a weakness. The experience forever changed T’Kaen, and she managed to find success in her life for the first time ever.

She worked hard, finally applying to Starfleet Academy when she was 18. She yearned to explore space and to see and do new things. She was heartbroken to find out that she didn't pass the entrance exam. Her friends reassured her that plenty of people didn't pass the first time, and she went back to studying.

She would end up taking the exam several more times, but she would never pass. She joined her mother at the Diplomatic Corps for a while, yet she didn't find the work very interesting. Realizing that there were other ways to work on a starship, she decided to sign up as an NCO.
Starfleet History T’Kaen’s first assignment as an NCO was aboard the Sovereign-class USS Imperative. At first, her duties were relatively minimal. She’d inventory weapons lockers, guard the brig when needed, and escort diplomats around the ship. As she began to make a name for herself aboard the ship, she gradually picked up other duties, like away team missions, and finally manning the tactical station on the bridge.

From there, she went on to be assigned to the Galaxy-class USS George. While aboard the George, she met Nicholas. He was a brilliant civilian scientist with a prominent career ahead of him, and for some reason, he fell in love with her. She threw herself more and more into her work, and yet still he was interested. She finally relented, and the two embarked on a relationship that was far more fulfilling than she would have possibly hoped. When she found out that she was going to be transferred to the Akira-class USS Cole, she was certain their relationship was over. After all, there wasn’t that much a scientist could do aboard an Akira, and his research was important to him. But when she came back to their quarters one night, he proposed. For the first time in her life, she dared get her hopes up about the future.

They transferred to the Cole and everything seemed to be going well. There was still a small science contingent on the vessel, and Nicholas still had some work to do. He assured T’Kaen that once their time on Cole was done and they were back on Earth, they’d get married. Though they’d always agreed on no children, Nicholas asked her one day to see if she could conceive, just so they would know their options. T’Kaen was hesitant, fearing it would lead to the dissolution of their relationship, but she eventually relented. The CMO confirmed her suspicions: she was infertile.

Over the course of their last few weeks aboard the Cole, Nicholas worked more and more. So too did T’Kaen, who had impressed her superiors with her tactical skills, her attention to detail, and her ability to think on her feet. She was excited to find out where she would call home next. When she received word it was Galileo, she was overjoyed. Finally an opportunity for Nicholas to really shine.

Or at least… that was how she felt before he left her at the altar.
Medical History Due to the nature of her hybridization, T’Kaen is sterile. She possesses the necessary internal organs, but does not produce gametes. She additionally has issues with her immune system due to the variance between Klingon and Vulcan physiologies. As such, she suffers from Hybrid Lupus, where her body’s immune system occasionally attacks itself. She is on immunosuppressants to counter this effect.

Do to the nature of her work, she has had a number of injuries, ranging from cuts to bruises to the occasional broken bone. In general, she avoids Sickbay for these ailments unless they are detrimental to her overall performance.
