Physical Description Like most Mirans, Naima has a distinctly human appearance with fair skin and lustrous brown hair. However, the similarities end when moving beyond the superficial as Mirans have pushed the limits of integration between man and machine, seeking a technologically advanced society free from the limitations imposed by viewing the body as sacred, perfect, or unalterable. Miran eyes were rendered near-useless centuries ago, so Naima has ocular implant overlays that receive data from sub-dermal sensor nodes that constantly scan her surroundings and allow her to interpret the environment around her through various datastreams. As a matter of fashion, she keeps her eyes hidden behind opaque goggles. Beneath her hair at the base of her skull is a neurocannular shunt with an extremely sophisticated wireless data interface module connected directly to her brain, allowing her to interface with any available data network such as the Miran Planetary Datalink or a starship’s computer system.
Body Art Under her control, Naima’s subdermal sensor nodes can be made visible as sharply defined green lights running in a circuitry-like pattern.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Naima is a naturally outgoing person, an unusual trait for the insular Miran people. She is friendly and accepting of other races, free from any trace of xenophobia, thanks in large part to her education and upbringing as a future Speaker. She loves life and people and might be considered hedonistic by some for her intense interest in the pleasurable and thrilling things in life, part of her investigation of the galaxy’s “jazz.” In the workplace she’s a hands-on learner and chafes under elaborate rules and regulations, preferring instead to find the shortest and easiest path to a solution without being bogged down by bureaucracy or chain-of-command. Naima enjoys being the center of attention and often goes out of her way to help others, trying hard to bring a smile or a laugh to a difficult day. Like the rest of the People, she is a committed pacifist but respects the military duties and responsibilities of Starfleet.

Ambitions Naima looks forward to serving the People as a Speaker, the pre-determined career path for her in Miran society. Although some within the Federation reject the highly regimented nature of Epsilon Mira Prime, Naima has made her peace with it, has faith in the aptitude testing system, and sees it as the best way for her to make her contribution to the People. She hopes to build strong friendships with other Federation citizens during the final portions of her training and learn as much as possible to best represent the interests of her homeworld.
Hobbies & Interests Naima has an academic interest in computer systems and simulated worlds derived from her experience with the Miran Datalink, as well as a professional interest in Starfleet and the government systems of the Federation and surrounding nations. She is a thrill seeker and regularly engages in sports and adventure activities, as well as other group activities and experiences.
Vernacular Naima has a high-pitched voice with a very distinct Miran accent, which rounds most of her words and gives them a sing-song quality.
Orientation Bisexual
Language(s) Spoken Federation Standard, Miran, Linkspeak (Miran slang)

Personal History Naima was born as an only child in 2369 on Epsilon Mira Prime, the fifth moon of the planet Mira Prime and the only M-class body in the Mira system. Like all children in Miran society she was introduced to the planet’s Datalink system at an early age, learning to navigate the datastreams and virtual worlds with an impressive aptitude. Early aptitude testing in the regimented society identified her as a candidate for the Speakers, the caste of Miran society that serve as diplomats, negotiators and points of contact with the outside world. This guided her education in the formative years, placing an above-average emphasis on people, places, and systems outside Epsilon Mira Prime; her interest in “the Exterior” was further sparked by trips with her father off-world to the geothermal energy stations on Mira Prime, where she could observe the stars and wonder at the many worlds that were beyond their small system.

Adolescence was a tumultuous time for Naima as she developed a fascination with the youth subculture of the Datalink, which spent its time engaging in random acts of hacking and anarchy. This led to a great deal of rebelliousness that was tempered only by her embrace of the broad social contract regulating Miran society, where everyone must play their part and do their duty for the People. While developing a number of technical skills along the way and picking up the slang of the movement, she eventually lost her interest in the Datalink subculture as she matured and embraced her destiny as a Speaker of the People.

After completing degrees in Miran cultural studies and exterior relations, Naima was sent by the Miran Directorate for a period of field study off-world. Her mission is to familiarize herself with the other worlds of the Federation so that she may some day better navigate among them when she takes her rightful place among the other Speakers of Epsilon Mira Prime. After a brief period on Earth and against the advice of the deeply pacifist Miran Directorate, she’s now joined a civilian participant program as a computer specialist aboard the USS Galileo to experience life in Starfleet.
Medical History Naima has a complex medical history related to her physiological enhancements. Miran enhancements, like the neurocannular shunt and subdermal sensor nodes, are powered by energy converted through engineered enzymes in the body. The process leads to a significantly higher rate of metabolism, giving Mirans an appetite far beyond their diminutive stature. Miran eyes were rendered near-useless centuries ago, so Naima has ocular implant overlays that receive data from sub-dermal sensor nodes that constantly scan her surroundings and allow her to interpret the environment around her through various datastreams. Like many of the People, Naima has a visual-auditory form of synesthesia where certain images have sounds attached to them. She sees the wonders of the world around her as “jazz” and seeks to “follow the jazz” in looking for new sights and experiences.
