Personality & Traits
General Overview | Jeroen is a man who has seen a lot in his life. He is very intelligent but also very calm, having mastered his temper over the years. He has a genuine caring heart for people, wanting to help them should they need it. However, he also does not like being played around and will be honest about his feelings. Some would argue that his past has shaped him for the better, but Jeroen believes it is more about what he has done on his road to redemption over the years. He has suffered a lot of guilt over surviving the attack against the Maquis and for surrendering, however he also believes that the group he had joined once as an idealistic young scientist became a terrorist organisation. He never speaks of his experiences in prison, deflecting the questions with the honest reply of "I do not wish to talk about that. It is over." |
|
Strengths | Jeroen is an intelligent man with a strong moral core which can occasionally get him into awkward situations. He is also caring about people and will easily approach others. | |

Personal History | Jeroen Adlar was born in North London, England, but grew up all over Europe. His parents were both Dutch, but as academics they travelled all over Earth and dragged Jeroen and his brother Willem with them wherever they went. Jeroen grew up into an intelligent young man, speaking several languages. He always wanted to go into science, more specifically towards the terraforming movement which was currently happening and more and more colonies were established. Jeroen attended Oxford University, where he studied Geoengineering, which was one of the bases for terraforming. He went onto doing his Master and PhD there, finishing at the age of 26 and going out into space to help colonies make their new homes more suitable for living. This landed him in the DMZ, where he assisted several colonies in the terraforming effort. However, when the Cardassian forces advanced, Jeroen felt he could not sit by and see the planets and people he had worked with so closely be occupied. He joined the Maquis, with the ideals of a young man and the hopes and dreams of a future for everyone. Unfortunately, it did not go as peacefully as Jeroen had believed. Slowly, over the years, he found himself a fighter. And as his ideals started to die, he saw himself as a terrorist against his will. It was in the Maquis he met and befriended Scarlet Blake, a girl whose parents had joined the effort. He felt responsible for the child, who seemed to have no one to protect her. So he taught her and tried to make her able to defend herself and survive, drawing on his knowledge of fencing to train her. When the base was attacked by Cardassians, Jeroen was one of the wounded to escape in a shuttle. Thinking Scarlet was dead, he was overcome by guilt and when a Federation ship intercepted them, he convinced everyone on the shuttle to surrender rather than to waste their lives fighting to the death. Jeroen was trialed with the others as a terrorist and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Prison in itself was hard for him, as he became one of the lowest of the low. However, he volunteered himself to help the post-war effort of rebuilding the planets, both Federation and Cardassian, and spent the next 5 years on a terraforming project to undo the damage that had been done. After five years, he was released from prison and decided to join Starfleet to repay for what he had done. They were reluctant to accept him, yet with the changes after the war they decided it was better to keep Jeroen close than have him disappear from their view. |

Starfleet History | Jeroen enlisted in Starfleet, joining the science department on the USS New Zealand. It was a lousy posting, yet Jeroen understood it was a test as well. For the next years he would advance slowly, working harder than most and achieving good results, yet knowing he would always be in the shadow of what he had done in an attempt to save people. In 2389 he was finally transferred to a proper posting, the USS Galileo, where he took up the role as the Geoengineer. |
|
Medical History | Jeroen has several wounds listed from his time in prison, including - broken collarbone - general physical trauma (undisclosed) - stab wound to right shoulderblade - two teeth knocked out - broken nose. From previous scans, these things were found - Stab wound to left thigh - broken arm (right) - broken finger (all, left hand) |
