Sim Milestone - 13-Year Anniversary

I'm very pleased to announce our game's 13th anniversary today. I'll congratulate everyone in a short moment but first I want to share a personal story:

In January of 2012, I applied within Obsidian Fleet for an XO position aboard any available game but was instead offered the option of GMing either a Nova-class or Defiant-class RPG. Weighing the pros and cons of this new GM responsibility alongside my (at the time) limited experience in the written RPG world was tough but made much easier by the opportunity to carve out a niche in our hobby. Combat and action-focused games were plentiful and alluring but that never represented my grounding interest in the fandom.

Shortly after accepting this offer and opening Galileo, the importance of this RPG quickly became clear and we started to fill a void and attract players who preferred cerebral and intellectual writing; in many ways, replicating the spirit of traditional Star Trek as seen on TV and in theaters. Published authors soon found us alongside the most talented group of writers I'd ever encountered. To say it was an overwhelming experience doesn't quite capture the sentiment. It was a daily struggle for me to keep up with the writing talent here, the administration side of the game, and my auxiliary duties within OF.

I always look back on that era of our game with a sense of pride and ownership, as something we all built together which has lasted over a decade. Sometimes as the apex of this RPG when we were pushing 300 posts per month with 25 players. But then I look at this game now, and specifically over the past year, the stories we told in 2024. Tomorrow's Galileo and Reconstruction were an excellent 1-2 combo executed with passion and precision not found on other games. All of season 4 so far, including Crystal of Life and Cold Station 31, has been the best writing we've accomplished as a group to date.

Every time I log in and get the chance to write with each of you, it makes my day. It's a privilege to be able to do that. This game is best-in-class and each of you are responsible for making it so. This game's survived every imaginable sort of drama thrown at it and has gone on to thrive as an indie RPG. Most games in this hobby don't last 12 months - yet here we are peaking again after 13 years.

To each of you: Take pride in Galileo and this community. Take ownership of it and make the most of each day we're afforded the chance to tell our stories together. Understand this game's history and the prestige our game's name carries. Continue to live up to the standard we've created. Tell your stories. And most importantly, have fun.

You all are the best group of writers I've encountered and I thank you for embracing my storytelling techniques. 13 years and we haven't missed a beat.

Congratulations on this milestone. See the below stats for our combined work thus far.
