It might be coming

Yes indeed, warp drive might be coming.

I was perusing some news and NASA is working on something called the Alcubierre Drive.

Think of it as sort of like the magician pulling the table cloth out. Space-time stretches such that it shrinks in front and stretches to the rear of the object or what in Trek is more or less how warp drive works.

There are a few things to work out, like negative energy. A bit too complicated to go into here, but yes there is such a thing.

Still the interesting take away is that the Alcubierre Drive nor negative energy violate Einstein field equations. Yes problems but there are indications that various levels of quantum theory offer that such a drive might be able to be constructed.
