A little housekeeping

Hi everyone, me again.

I just wanted to bring a few things up to everyone's attention that I've noticed from speaking to various people since I asked for any hints, tips etc to be brought forward for myself and the CO to look at.

The biggest one that I'm seeing, which I'm sure our illustrious leader is also aware of, is the need for us to make sure we can write our posts with the appropriate spelling and grammar etc. Some of you may or may not be aware that the CO and I can read through any and all posts when they are being written, so I've had a good scout around the site, and I definitely agree that this is something we need to keep an eye on.

From now on, I'd like all members of the crew to make sure they are checking a few simple things before putting their posts up as complete - this is just a starting block for now, rather than taking any further extra precautions.

1. Please watch out when you are using similar forms of the same word - for example "your" and "you're" or "than" and "then" - they have very different meanings and this seems to be one of our greatest errors.

2. General spelling needs to be watched - I appreciate that Nova doesn't have a built in spell checker, so I'd like to request that all posts be copied and pasted into something like Word to be run through a check of some description to pick up the odd occasions where a letter is missed out or a punctuation mark is in the wrong place, it just avoids us looking amateur to the outside reader. If you don't have access to generic typing software such as this, then there are plenty of free ones on the net that you can copy and paste into.

3. If you aren't sure about a term - then please please please ask :) the CO and I are always free to crosscheck terminology and canon references etc to make sure they make sense, so please feel free to throw something at us to take a look at, we don't bite, honestly!

I'm hoping that these three things should bring a significant improvement to the quality of the posts we are writing, and make them more enjoyable not only for ourselves, but also for the reader, which as you will all know by now, may bring in additional crewmembers, or hopefully get us nominated for awards from Command!

I don't want to feel like an ogre, or worse, an English teacher, breathing down everyone's necks about their writing, but it is extremely important, and can make the difference between a gold rated, top quality simm, and just another average one lost in the ocean that is the modern internet!

Happy writing :)
