RE: Introduction of contraband aboard ship

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crew of the Galileo

It has been brought to my attention that the opportunity for shore leave is bringing with it an increased number of attempts to reboard the ship with contraband items. Over the past week Security reports of items caught in the attempt to be brought aboard have included illicit substances, illegal substances, dangerous items and living animals without going through the necessary quarantine process. These attempts are presenting a clear and present danger to the ship and crew and measures are now being taken to bring it to a stop.

As the Galileo begins preparing for a scheduled departure from Vega Colony over the next few days, the loading ramp and shuttle bays are hereby shut down by order of Security. Departures to and from the ship will be accomplished, by all personnel, via transporter. Anyone attempting to circumvent these procedures, or use of these areas without prior, written authorization will be dealt with in appropriate measures.

Crew returning to the ship will be held in transporter stasis until such time as any items to be brought back are thoroughly scanned, registered and checked against regulatory and criminal databases. Any contraband discovered will be removed from transport and the crewmember will be issued a summons and/or arrested (depending on the nature of possessed item). It would be better to not attempt to bring back contraband items and/or go through proper procedures for questionable items.

A full attachment of contraband items, to include illicit, illegal and regulatorily prohibited items are attached. Also attached are helpful brochures stating requirements for registering and bringing back certain items that may become contraband without proper procedural work (to include weaponry, live animals, non-approved food items, plant species, etc.).

Security thanks you for your cooperation with these matters. PADDs with the necessary complaint forms will be available in the Security Office during normal business hours. All complaints completed will be compiled, reviewed and given their appropriate attention.

LTjg Jeremy Stone
Chief Security/Tactical Officer
U.S.S. Galileo
